Finer Finance Honors A Finer Woman

With saddened hearts we mourn the passing of Rosie L.T.P. Johnson, Ph.D.

I received the news of Dr. Pridgen Johnson this morning, and I've been trying to process it ever since. I was looking forward to seeing her in the coming months. We talked about my plans to come to The Coast for the Mississippi State Conference, but I wasn't sure if I would make it. I knew for sure I would see her this summer at Boule'.

We never really know when it's our last time seeing or speaking with someone. Today reminded me of the fragility of life. It reminded me to appreciate each moment in life and make sure the people I love know that I love them. At a time of my life when I was young and impressionable, there were women, Zeta women who helped shape the woman, the Zeta Woman I am today. Among those women, was Dr. Rosie Pridgen Johnson. I am sad. I am a grown-up admitting that the loss of a mentor at any stage of life is a great loss...the learning never ends.

Dr. Pridgen Johnson was a woman who always represented anything she did in the most Finer way. Gravitas doesn’t even begin to describe the attention she commanded when she strutted in a room. She was beautiful, inside and out, smart, savvy, and she was about action. She had a walk that matched her talk. She made Mississippi Proud and Zeta Proud. She was a servant leader, a community-conscious; action-oriented volunteer, she was a staunch supporter of Zetas Helping Other People Excel in Mind, Body, and Spirit, and she leveraged all her resources to "Get Engaged". She's leaving an amazing legacy for her family and friends, chapter members, other sorors around the globe, church family, and commission colleagues. The work she has done, speaks loudly and clearly for her.

I am not the only life touched by such a beautiful soul, and that can be seen through the overwhelming response to her passing. She embodied and lived the principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood in her daily walk. She used to say, "Do it with passion, or don't do it at all" and that was certainly her way, as she was passionate about her work, her family, Zeta...She was passionate about everything she did. She will be greatly missed, and it will be hard to say goodbye. Sharing the memories will be healing on all sides, and I certainly will find some comfort knowing that I will see her again, beyond this life.

Thank you Dr. Pridgen Johnson, thank you for gracing our lives with your presence, thank you for the memories along the journey of life, and thank you for leaving your hand print on the hearts of many. You've done your work. Rest well and felicity to your soul.
