Today Is Giving Tuesday!

Today is National Giving Tuesday!!!

We’ve had Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, which are all about spending. Today is Giving Tuesday, which is different. Giving Tuesday is about giving and investing!! It’s also strategic!

Deciding to be a philanthropist is a no-brainer when you are focused on creating wealth. Charitable contributions can reduce your tax burden at the end of the year. If you’re itemizing your tax return, you can report the dollars you contributed to charity for a deduction to your taxable income.

For instance, if you make $70,000 annually and contribute $7,000 to charity, then your taxable income is reduced to $63,000 on an itemized return. This can add up to substantial savings, especially if you’re in one of the higher tax brackets.

Corporations also provide matching gifts to maximize their tax deductions which can sometimes double or triple your gifts!!! Ask your HR or Corporate Affairs department. This is a great way to make your gift go further.I have leveraged this method and it's worth it!

I am blessed to co-chair this effort with wonderful women who helped bring the vision of the Centennial Commission to life!!! Many thanks to Dr. Mary Breaux Wright for her leadership of the sorority and to Dr. Jylla Tearte for her leadership of the Centennial Commission and vision for this Scholarship Fund. Thanks to all the committee members and Howard University partners for seeing it through to fruition.my education at Rust College is the result of men and women who felt compelled to give in the name of scholarship. I was blessed to receive a a quality education at Rust and attended on a full Academic Scholarship. I graduated from my HBCU with ZERO debt related to my education! So, I cannot forgo the opportunity to pay that forward!! In addition to giving to my own Alma Mater, I am also committed to giving in the name of our Five Pearls, in honor of SCHOLARSHIP, the first principle, a principle that along with the others has stood the test of time, nearly 100 years!!

I have made a personal commitment along with matching corporate contributions for a total of $20,000 payable to the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Founders Endowed Scholarship Fund. I join the ranks of Founding Donors for this scholarship and know without doubt that I am impacting the life of a young person and the future of STEM students at Howard University, where my Founders were scholars and subsequently educators in their communities.

Experience the gift of charitable gifts in your life! Give the Gift of Scholarship and multiply your gift’s impact by joining Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated this Giving Tuesday! The Founding Charter Donors of the Zeta Founders' Endowed Scholarship Fund are challenging all supporters from around the world to come together on one day for one cause: Howard University Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) students.

Our goal is 2,020 donors and $1 Million by January 16, 2020. The Founding Charter Donors have pledged $100,000 to improve educational access and affordability, but we need your help to unlock the gifts by reaching our matching goal of $100,000 on Giving Tuesday!
